Offre d’emploi : Post-doctorat en Parasitologie

Postdoctoral Fellow: Malaria resistance research

Organisation: Institut Pasteur de la Guyane

Department:  Parasitology laboratory, WHO Collaborating Center for Surveillance of Antimalarial Drug Resistance, National Reference Center for Malaria resistance,

Location: Cayenne, French Guiana

Application deadline: May 31, 2019 (position open until filled)

Description: One Postdoctoral position is available at the parasitology laboratory, Institut Pasteur de la Guyane. The laboratory of Dr. Lise Musset focuses on resistance of malaria parasites in the Guiana Shield/South America. As National Reference Center for Malaria for 30 years, the laboratory has a long-term interest in optimizing the use of antimalarial drugs. Plasmodium spp. parasites circulating in South America present many original aspects in terms of resistance and molecular markers. In this part of the world, resistant parasites appear de novoand in situ. Also, evolution of resistance and associated genotypes usually differ from those observed in Africa and South-East Asia. Despite this interest, studies on South American isolates are limited. Our laboratory conducts research programs on P. falciparum in this area to explore: i) resistance mechanisms to antimalarial drugs, ii) evolution under drug pressure and iii) in vivo and in vitro phenotypes against currently used or future antimalarial drugs. Please visit our website http://www.pasteur-cayenne.fr for more information about projects and recent publications. Successful candidate will be able to participate in projects focused on the evolution of resistance to artemisinins’ partner drugs. This issue will be investigated using French Guianan strains; high throughput genotyping methods and will be associate to a large part of in vitro multiplication of parasites and phenotyping methods.  The financial support covers a full time for two years position. Candidate will be hire full time for one year with the possibility to extend up to a two year period or even more based on overall performance and available funds.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience and previous expertise in malaria biology, resistance and eventually bioinformatics for whole genome sequencing data analysis. Skills in in vitro cultivation of malaria parasites would be appreciated.
